Building

Chrysler Building

I have plenty of pictures of buildings, so this weeks PhotoFriday theme should have been simple. But finding the building rather than just a building was a little harder than I initially thought it might be. In the end I went for this picture of the Chrysler Building in New York.

Please also vote for my entry in last weeks challenge, “Shade.” I’m entry number 166.

Turbulent

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

This is one of those weeks where all the other entries that I saw for this weeks PhotoFriday, “Turbulent,” make zero sense to me. Turbulent means disorder or chaotic which, to me, suggested a bumpy plane ride or a mass of flowing water. In the end I felt that this image of Niagara Falls (from the Canadian side) conveyed the message best. Landscapes or a bed don’t tell the same story to me.

Contrast

Getty Museum, Los Angeles

For this weeks PhotoFriday, I thought of a picture I took a couple of years ago in Stockholm. As I usually do, I searched to see if I’d used the same image for any other challenges. It turns out I had. For a challenge titled, “Contrast.” Well, at least I’m consistent.

The above image, of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, has pretty much the same idea.

Architecture

Empire State Building framed by the Manhattan Bridge, from Booklyn

My first ideas when I first heard that this weeks PhotoFriday theme was “Architecture” was New York. I flirted with other places and ideas — such as the Eiffel Tower and a couple of shots from Vienna — but I kept coming back to the sky-scrapers and bridges of Manhattan. In the end I picked this one because it has Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building.

Reflect

Chrysler Building

In fact I’m not completely happy with this image, at least for the theme of “Reflect,” which is this weeks PhotoFriday challenge. It’s a reflection but I’m not completely sure that it means “reflect.” But I couldn’t find one (or think of one to take) that would be more appropriate, so here it is. It was taken earlier this year in New York — it’s a reflection of the Chrysler Building in the building across the road from it.

New New York

Last time I went to New York I wrote a reasonable amount about it so I’m not sure that I have much to add this time. Instead I’ll mainly just let the pictures do the talking.

The hotel I was staying in was not far from Times Square, so I passed through on a number of occasions. It’s always busy, especially early evening when this image was taken1.

Wheels

An old American car, Trinidad, Cuba

I know I’m bucking a trend here by posting this on a Friday, but here is my entry for this weeks PhotoFriday, “Wheels.” Okay, this car has never been my set of wheels, but this is a really neat car that’s in amazing condition considering its age. Before I went to Cuba I assumed that cars like this were only visible on postcards. I quickly found that they’re all over the place. They’re also far less glamorous and practical when you get inside. Great fun though.
