How to interpret the PhotoFriday theme this week, “Best of 2010“? Something that signifies 2010 in some way? “Just” the best image of 2010? If so, by what definition of “best”? This is hard.

But in the end I went for the above shot, which was taken in the Tokyo International Forum.

Why? It’s no great shakes technically — the glare in the top left is even a little distracting — but there’s something about the muted colours, the neatness. And it says something about Japan that this guy, clearly not homeless, not a drunk, had no qualms just lying down and sleeping in a public place.

I’m starting to think that they should call it PhotoSunday… but here is my entry for this weeks PhotoFriday, “Tranquil.” It was taken in Kyoto and is of a sand garden.

Given the sub-zero temperatures that we’re experiencing in the UK, this weeks PhotoFriday theme, “Chill,” is very appropriate. I can’t, however, really use one of the pictures I took earlier this week¹ so instead this one was taken in January this year in our first snows of 2010.

I didn’t post an entry to last weeks challenge so there’s no need to feel bad for not voting for me(!).

Late to the party again, but I finally found what I think is a suitable image for this weeks PhotoFriday challenge, “Vivid.” This picture was taken so long ago that it’s actually on film (remember that?). It’s in Tromso, Norway. I thought the colours of the buildings and sky were very bright, deep and vivid contrasted with the snow.

Again, I’m not quite happy with this image. It’s close to the theme “Liquid,” which is this weeks PhotoFriday challenge, but, to me, isn’t exactly right. As you can see, it’s a bottle of white wine that I took a couple of years ago.

This weeks PhotoFriday theme, “Dark,” was easier than some of those that they’ve come up with recently! This was taken from the top of Tokyo Tower last month.

Not sure why but this weeks PhotoFriday theme, “Fluffy,” was pretty hard. I thought of clouds. Of cotton wood (urgh). I don’t know, but none of that really worked for me. I’m not sure that a sheep fits the theme any better, but that’s what I’ve entered. This was taken on a trip this year to Stone Henge.

My first ideas when I first heard that this weeks PhotoFriday theme was “Architecture” was New York. I flirted with other places and ideas — such as the Eiffel Tower and a couple of shots from Vienna — but I kept coming back to the sky-scrapers and bridges of Manhattan. In the end I picked this one because it has Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building.

I’m not sure if this is close or abstract enough to count as a “Macro Shot,” which is this weeks PhotoFriday challenge, but I thought that it was close enough to be a contender. It’s a picture of the dead hard disk from my MacBook.

People are still laying flowers and postcards near where John Lennon died nearly thirty years after his death, so I think this qualifies as being “Unforgettable,” which is this weeks PhotoFriday challenge.
